Twenty-One Essential Basics – Part One

The main premise of the game is to be handed cards adding up to 21. Each competitor is given 2 cards. When a black jack player is given a 9 or lower value card and an Ace they’ve been given a soft hand. When the blackjack player is dealt no Ace cards it is referred to as a hard hand. Once the cards have been given to all players at the blackjack table, which includes the dealer, every gambler is provided the chance to make one of six actions:

Requesting another card (Hit): When a blackjack player says "hit me" the croupier will give him another card, if the adding of that card causes the value of the hand to exceed 21 the black jack player will have lost and be excluded from the game, if the card makes the value of the hand to twenty-one the black jack player is the winner and if the total has not yet reached 21 they’re still in the game.

Keeping the hand you’ve been dealt: If a player is happy with the hand they will stay. As soon as this has happened the croupier will display their hand and the gambler who has accumulated twenty-one or the closet to twenty one will win.

Doubling Down: A gambler may request to double down which doubles the bet they have made. As soon as you’ve taken this action you can only be given 1 more card. The details of doubling down are usually specified by the blackjack table or casino game rules so prior to wagering be sure you are comfortable with the house rules. If you are playing at an online casino this is usually very easy.
